Clayton's family-history collections give Houston researchers more than a name search
Houston Public Library's research center combines international holdings with staff help and resources that extend beyond the main catalog.

A family-history search can stall when every new query returns the same uncertain names. Houston Public Library's Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library Campus offers another approach: choosing records and research strategies around a specific question.
The center is at 5300 Caroline Street and holds national and international material in print, microprint and online formats. Staff offer resource recommendations and individual consultation. Check its current hours and contact the center at 832-393-2600 before travelling for a particular collection or a complicated request.
The genealogy guide links separate microprint and periodical databases, family-file indexes and funeral-home collections. It notes that much of the microprint material is not represented in the main library catalog. Database access also differs by resource, with some services limited to use inside the library. Read those conditions before planning a research session from home.
Bring a concise statement of the question, the sources already checked and the dates or locations you can support. Preserve a citation with each useful discovery and keep uncertain matches separate from established facts. A productive visit may end with a better search plan rather than a completed family tree, and that can be a substantial step forward.
